The story of a legend: from Bape to Human Made, the NIGO odyssey

In 1993, Tomoaki Nagao, nicknamed "NIGO", co-founds BAPE with Jun Takahashi in Tokyo. For nearly 20 years, BAPE becomes the symbol of premium Japanese streetwear, globally popularized by Pharrell, Kanye, Lil Wayne. In 2011, NIGO sells BAPE to focus on Human Made, launched in 2010.

Where BAPE was camo and loud logos, Human Made is vintage workwear, Americana, and discreet japonism. The slogan: "The future is in the past". Since 2021, NIGO also serves as creative director of Kenzo, without ever abandoning Human Made.

A unique signature: "Heart Made" and the culture of detail

The Human Made heart emblem is inspired by US Army badges and vintage sports patches. The other signature: Animal and Duck graphics. Concretely: Japanese cotton woven on old looms, water-based screen printing, Japanese detail in finishing.
