The Nike Blazer was born in 1973 as Nike's first basketball shoe, designed by Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight for player Geoff Petrie of the Portland Trail Blazers — hence its name. 50 years later, its clean silhouette with imposing lateral swoosh makes it one of the most collector sneakers of the game, propelled by Off-White (Virgil Abloh), Sacai, Stussy, Acronym, Slam Jam, Supreme and Levi's collabs. At MTHOR Shop, find the full Blazer range — Low, Mid, Mid '77, SB, Off-White "The Ten" — every pair authenticated and shipped Europe-wide in 2 to 8 business days, with 4x interest-free payment via Klarna or Scalapay.
Nike Blazer: the first Nike basketball shoe turned cult streetwear
In 1972, Nike Blue Ribbon Sports sought to enter the American basketball market. Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight signed the Nike Blazer in 1973 — mid-top silhouette in white leather, oversized lateral swoosh, gum sole — and gave it to Geoff Petrie, Portland Trail Blazers player (whose name would be retained for the shoe). In 1976, the Blazer was worn by Sidney Wicks then George Gervin (Spurs) and the entire NBA Portland team. In the 80s-90s, it migrated to skateboarding (Nike SB Blazer) then in the 2000s to retro streetwear.
The modern turning point arrived in 2017 with Off-White x Nike "The Ten": Virgil Abloh signed the Blazer Mid with deconstructed details, "AIR" in relief, helvetica typography, "SHOELACES" stamps. The drop made the Blazer an instant collector hit, with values 5x to 10x retail on StockX. Followed by Sacai x Nike Blazer (Low, Mid double-tongue, seasonal capsules), Stüssy x Nike Blazer (Mid Black/Yellow, Low Habanero Red), Acronym x Nike Blazer, Slam Jam x Nike Blazer, Supreme x Nike Blazer, Levi's x Nike Blazer.
The story of an icon: Blazer Low, Mid, Mid '77, SB
Three lines define the modern Blazer. First, the Blazer Mid — historic 1973 silhouette in white leather with lateral swoosh, mid-top, gum sole. Available in multiple colorways (Sail/Black, White/Red, Vintage Suede). Second, the Blazer Mid '77 (2018 reissue) — vintage version with yellowed finishes, contrasting suede, aged gum sole. Third, the Blazer Low — classic low version. Fourth, the Nike SB Blazer — skate version with thicker sole, reinforced padding, and streetwear collabs (Soulland, Lance Mountain).
On the collab side, the Off-White x Nike "The Ten" canon (2017) with Blazer Mid Off-White (White, Wolf Grey All Hallows Eve, Serena Williams Queen, Spooky Pack) remains tier 1. Sacai x Nike Blazer (2019-2024) with its hybrid double-tongue/double-swoosh silhouette. Stüssy Blazer Mid (Black/Yellow, Habanero Red). Acronym Blazer Low (Black, Tan), Levi's Blazer Mid (denim canvas), Slam Jam Blazer (Italy capsules).
A visual signature recognizable among all
Three elements make a Blazer instantly identifiable. First, the oversized lateral Swoosh — proportionally larger than on most other Nikes, covering nearly the entire shoe side. Second, the minimalist mid-top silhouette — smooth white leather + padded collar + aged gum sole, without superfluous details. Third, the "BLAZER" branding on heel — engraved in relief on rear tag, sometimes replaced by collab co-branding (Off-White™, Sacai, Stüssy, etc.).
For Off-White collabs, distinctive details are: "AIR" stamp on eyelets, "SHOELACES" on laces, helvetica typography "OFF-WHITE™" on tongue, red sticker bordering lateral sole. For Sacais, the lateral double-swoosh and double-tongue are immediate markers. For Stüssys, "Stüssy x Nike" co-branding on inner tongue.

On an authentic pair, the lateral Swoosh is perfectly aligned and in the official color, the inner tag shows the correct size with the official color code and date of manufacture, the padded collar is uniformly stitched, and the engraved "BLAZER" branding on heel is legible. All Blazers sold on MTHOR Shop are authenticated via UV lamp, microscope and reference comparison before sealed shipment.
