The story of the Nike One Piece collab: the best-selling manga meets the TN

One Piece is the best-selling manga of all time: written and illustrated by Eiichirō Oda, it has been serialized in Shūeisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump since July 22, 1997 and has sold more than 500 million copies worldwide. The series follows Monkey D. Luffy and his Straw Hat pirate crew on their quest for the legendary treasure, the One Piece. That is the starting point Nike chose for the collaboration. According to Nike, the team drew on the characters' superhuman abilities to imagine what they would become once translated into sneakers. Rather than applying a simple colorway, each pair takes on the shape and patterns of a fruit: the upper's patterns were completely redrawn to evoke the look of the fruit, and the tongue carries a new branding detail, a Nike-branded Jolly Roger, a nod to the series' pirate flag.

The launch took the form of a world tour: a Tokyo pop-up from September 4 to 6, 2026, releases on September 12 in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Taipei, Seoul, Jakarta, Mexico City and Umeda, then on September 19 in stores in cities such as London, Amsterdam, Madrid, Milan, Düsseldorf, Stockholm, Dallas and Washington. The global release on the SNKRS app was announced for September 25, 2026, ahead of a final stop in Sydney from October 16 to 18. Each colorway had regional availability. Beyond the sneakers, the Nike One Piece collection also includes jerseys, T-shirts, caps and a sleeveless jacket.

The Nike Air Max Plus: why the TN was the ideal silhouette

The Nike Air Max Plus, nicknamed "TN" for Tuned Air, was designed by Sean McDowell and launched by Nike in 1998. The designer drew inspiration from a trip to Florida: the wavy cage wrapping the upper evokes palm trees bent by the wind, and the color gradient recalls a sunset on the beach. This graphic silhouette, built from day one for bold colorways, was a natural fit for the Devil Fruits.
