How2Work × The Monsters: Kasing Lung's cult figures
Step into the world of How2Work The Monsters, the art toy line that introduced Labubu, Zimomo and the whole tribe dreamed up by artist Kasing Lung. Long before blind boxes exploded worldwide, it was the Hong Kong studio How2Work that brought these creatures to life in sofubi and vinyl editions — today among the most coveted pieces on the art toy market. At MTHOR, we hand-pick each figure and have it authenticated by our team of experts, so you can collect the spirit of The Monsters with complete peace of mind.
From the earliest exhibition releases to the limited 10th anniversary editions, this collection brings together How2Work's signature pieces: an ideal playground for seasoned collectors and for anyone just discovering the world of Labubu.
The story of an icon: Kasing Lung and the birth of The Monsters
It all begins with Kasing Lung (龍家昇), an artist born in Hong Kong and based in the Netherlands, raised on fairy tales and Nordic mythology. From this imagination of deep forests and mischievous elves comes The Monsters, a series of picture books published from 2015 onwards. At the heart of this world is Labubu, a small creature with pointy ears and a jagged smile, at once playful and endearing, surrounded by companions Zimomo, Tycoco and Mokoko.
To bring these characters from page to object, Kasing Lung teamed up with the studio How2Work, a Hong Kong specialist in art figures. Together they produced the very first The Monsters figures, in limited runs unveiled at fairs and exhibitions. It is these How2Work editions that laid the foundations of the phenomenon: long before the mainstream wave, they were already being traded among in-the-know collectors. Today Labubu has become a global pop icon, and the original pieces signed by How2Work retain a very special aura.
How2Work and the art of sofubi: a unique craft
The signature of How2Work figures lies in how they are made. Many are crafted in sofubi (from soft vinyl), a Japanese technique of mould-cast soft vinyl, prized by artists for its warm finish and retro texture. Other pieces use a more rigid vinyl or large statue-style formats. Each figure is then painted, sometimes by hand, with an attention to detail that gives the object all its value.
This craftsmanship translates into three concrete strengths: a premium finish with deep colours and carefully mastered gradients; a unique character specific to each edition, from the colourway to the accessories; and a collector quality built to last and to gain value over time.
The collection's iconic pieces
The How2Work The Monsters collection brings together the most sought-after figures of the Kasing Lung universe. You'll find the variations of Labubu, the star character, as well as Zimomo, the big brother recognisable by his tail, released in several cult colourways such as Zimomo Voor and Zimomo Pur, flagship pieces of the 10th anniversary of The Monsters. Collectors also hunt for Tycoco, the skeleton companion, and Mokoko, not forgetting the spectacular large-format Mega figures and the exhibition editions in very limited series (often just a few hundred pieces). Anniversary releases, exclusives from fairs such as DesignerCon and special colourways round out a catalogue that sets the benchmark on the art toy market.
