Collector Vinyl Records: the cult object of rap, pop and modern culture
Step into the world of collector vinyl records, the rarest and most coveted pressings in contemporary music culture. From US rap to global pop, through art & fashion collaborations, vinyl has established itself as the ultimate fan object: a collector's piece, a cultural artifact and a tangible work signed by an artist. At MTHOR Shop, we curate the color variants, Target Exclusives, signed editions, box sets and limited pressings that build a real collection — Travis Scott, Frank Ocean, Kanye West, Kid Cudi, Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, Juice Wrld, The Weeknd. Every record is authenticated by our team of experts before shipping, to guarantee an original pressing in mint condition with all original inserts.
The story of a comeback: why vinyl returned to center stage
Pronounced dead in the 90s with the rise of CD then streaming, vinyl experienced a spectacular comeback from the 2010s onwards. According to the RIAA, vinyl sales overtook CDs in the United States as early as 2020 — a first since 1986. In 2024, more than 49 million units sold on the US market, driven by a new generation of fans who no longer settle for streaming the music: they want to physically own it.
This comeback played out on three levers: the return of rap and pop on the vinyl format (Travis Scott, Frank Ocean, Tyler the Creator, Billie Eilish), the strategy of color variants and retailer exclusives (Target, Urban Outfitters, Spotify Fans First), and the explosion of the secondary collector market with pressings like Frank Ocean Blonde or the Travis Scott Utopia Cover trading for several hundred euros. Vinyl is no longer just an audio format — it has become an object of desire, a statement and a collector's piece, on par with a rare sneaker.
Understanding a collector vinyl: pressing, format and color variant
A collector vinyl is recognized through several precise technical criteria. The pressing first: a first pressing or a limited pressing (numbered edition, often 500 to 5000 copies) immediately gains value. The format next: a standard LP plays at 33 rpm with an A side and a B side; a 2XLP spreads an album over two discs; a 12" maxi-single is dedicated to one extended track; a 7" remains the legendary format of vintage singles.
The color variant has become the language of modern collectors — translucent, marbled, splatter, glow-in-the-dark, picture disc, heart-shaped: each variant has its own price on the secondary market. Finally, the decisive collector attributes are:
The vinyl weight (140g standard, 180g audiophile, 200g premium) which affects pressing quality and longevity. The gatefold sleeve (which opens in two), the inserts (lyrics sheet, posters, photos), the Japanese OBI (side strip) and the original hype sticker on the seal — all elements that make the difference between a standard copy and a true collector's piece.
The iconic pressings in the collection
Our Collector Vinyl Records collection brings together the most sought-after pressings from contemporary rap, hip-hop and pop culture. You'll find the signature pieces from Travis Scott (Astroworld, Utopia in its different covers, the The Scotts × KAWS collab in green), the full collector lineup from Frank Ocean (Blonde 2XLP and Channel Orange 2XLP, two pressings that became legendary), the Yeezy releases from Kanye West (Vultures, BULLY in signed edition, Kids See Ghosts in pink limited).
You'll also find the Target Exclusives from Taylor Swift (Folklore in red, Red Taylor's Version in 4XLP red, Lover Live From Paris in heart-shaped pink & blue, The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology), the Kid Cudi × KAWS Man on the Moon Trilogy Box Set, the Kendrick Lamar pressings (DAMN. Target Exclusive translucent forest green), Eminem (Curtain Call 2 orange), Juice Wrld (Goodbye & Good Riddance, Legends Never Die in eternal purple), Logic, Keshi, and rare cross-culture collabs like Daniel Arsham × The Weeknd (House of Balloons Anniversary 2LP, edition limited to 1000 copies) or Kith × The Notorious B.I.G. (Ready to Die LP).

FAQ — Collector Vinyl Records at MTHOR
How do you check the authenticity of a collector vinyl?
The authenticity of a collector vinyl is verified on several criteria: the original pressing (matrix engraved in the runout groove, printed label matching the official edition), the sleeve quality (high-resolution printing, thick cardboard, appropriate varnish), the presence of complete inserts (poster, lyrics, hype sticker, OBI depending on the edition), and — for new pressings — the untampered official seal. Our team systematically checks each of these elements before shipping. See the full process.
Which vinyl format to choose: LP, 2XLP, 7" or 12"?
The format depends on the album and the pressing. An LP contains a standard album on one disc (33 rpm, ~22 min per side). A 2XLP is used for long albums or audiophile pressings (more spaced grooving = better sound quality). A 12" is dedicated to an extended single or an EP (45 rpm for better dynamics). A 7" is the legendary format of vintage singles. For each product, the format is specified in the title.
Is the vinyl delivered sealed, with its original inserts?
Yes. All our new vinyls are delivered sealed with their original shrink-wrap, hype sticker visible, and include all official inserts (poster, lyrics sheet, OBI depending on the edition, booklet). For rare second-hand editions or open box, the condition is specified in the product page (sleeve VG/NM, vinyl Mint, complete inserts or not).
What is the delivery time?
We ship worldwide, with home delivery against signature in 2 to 8 days. You benefit from real-time tracking by email and WhatsApp, regardless of your destination. Records are shipped in reinforced packaging specific to the 12" format to guarantee arrival in perfect condition.
Will I have to pay customs fees?
No, no customs fees are at your charge. MTHOR covers the entirety of customs fees and duties, regardless of your destination worldwide. The price displayed on the site is the final price you pay: no bad surprises at delivery.
Can I return my vinyl if I'm not satisfied?
Yes. You have 14 days after receipt to return your vinyl, provided it is in its original condition (unopened seal for a new pressing, intact sleeve and vinyl for opened editions). The refund is processed within 24h after receipt of the return.
